Carmelite Convent The Carmelite Monastery of Preston is the only enclosed contemplative house in the diocese of Lancaster. Lancashire is renowned for its martyrs and staunch adherence to the faith in time of persecution. Only two miles away from the Carmel, is the ancient Marian shrine of Fernyhalgh, famous for its holy well and which also houses a shrine to the English Martyrs of penal times.
